Can’t resist

I know its been a long time for us here at the little Shakeup blog but I was reading this piece about newspaper video in New York Magazine and couldn’t figure out who to e-mail it to so I will send it into the ether.  Its essentially about everything we and others have been banging on about for quite a while, that is how serious quality newspapers will utilize the web to produce the journalsim that made their names:

I can easily imagine newspapers’ Web-video portals becoming the TV-journalism destinations of choice for smart people—that is, in the 21st century, the dominant nineteenth-century journalistic institution, newspapers, might beat the dominant twentieth-century institution, TV, at the premium part of its own game.

Clearly, video is one of the threads to follow, as are social networking and non-human methods of aggregation and customization.  But the key is to harness these particular technologies with relevant content.  I did a pretty comprehensive review of all the newspaper video I could find about a month ago and came across little that had anything to do with a particular market or specific group (even the new Mirror launch was concentrating on the Super Bowl for god’s sake).  Its a shame but I have a feeling that its going to change, and soon.
